Presidents' invitation

Dear Colleagues and Friends,
On behalf of the Congress Organising Committee, it is a great pleasure to invite you all, specialists in Lab Medicine and partners, to EuroMedLab Paris 2015, the 21st IFCC-EFLM European Congress of Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine. For the first time, this congress, including the Journées Internationales de Biologie (JIB), takes place in Paris, France, on June 21-25, 2015 in the Palais des Congrès, one of the capital’s legendary venue.

All around the world, health care systems are facing some of their greatest challenges and all nations need to find better, more innovative ways to treat and prevent illness. The coupling of science-technology and clinical medicine remains the relentless driver of new questions. There is a need for a new medical paradigm. We believe, with respect to challenges in public health, that harmonization of the training of the specialists of lab medicine, good practices, and innovation in lab medicine are one of the keys to unlocking this in order to contribute to the advancement of lab medicine and patient welfare.

The motto of the conference « R-evolution in Lab Medicine » emphasises the importance of Lab medicine in patient care and wellness in the 21st century. EuroMedLab Paris 2015 features the most up-to-date topics in the expanding field of laboratory medicine and brings together an array of leading international speakers, the key stakeholders and opinion leaders. The conferences will cover the translational nature of laboratory medicine with emphasis on both basic science as well as its applications in academia, industry and lab practice. It aims at encouraging global collaboration, new alliances and increasing partnerships.

EuroMedLab Paris 2015 is offering an intellectually stimulating combination of plenary lectures, symposia, educational workshops, interactive poster sessions where young scientists are especially encouraged to present their research results findings.

EuroMedLab Paris 2015 is the right place for sharing ideas, fostering exchanges and consolidating scientific partnerships, for bringing strategies and tips back to your organisation. It is a unique opportunity to visit one of the major European trade show bringing together the largest number of IVD companies. We would like to thank the corporate members for their support and willingness to collaborate actively to this event.

Paris is a major international centre for research in life sciences and a creative cultural destination in perpetual renewal being one of the highest-ranking cities in terms of tourism attraction. We are sure that both the scientific and the cultural programmes will provide you a memorable and enjoyable experience.

We hope to see you all in Paris!

Dr Bernard GOUGET
Co-President EuroMedLab Paris 2015
Chair Congress Organising Committee

Dear Colleagues and Friends,
In many parts of the world but especially in France, history has taught us that a real but unappreciated revolution could be hidden by a succession of apparently inoffensive evolutions. This is the case in Laboratory Medicine, which led us to choose "Revolution in Laboratory Medicine" as a motto for EuroMedLab 2015. The scientific programme focuses on major aspects of this Revolution: the progress in scientific knowledge, the changes in laboratory technologies and medical practices, the acceleration of information management and an expanding role in meeting public health challenges.
The opening lecture will be given by Prof. J. Hoffmann, winner of the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for his brilliant discoveries on immunity.

Plenary lectures will be given by international opinion leaders who will explore major challenges of Laboratory Medicine in the 21st century: diabetes mellitus (Prof. A. Hattersley), evolution of the medical laboratory (Prof. M. Panteghini), infectious diseases (Prof. E. Raout) and molecular medicine (Prof. M. Delpech).

Symposia will cover various key areas of laboratory medicine: evolution of daily practice (relations with patients, laboratory organization, preanalytical errors), perspectives in organ pathologies (cardiovascular and renal diseases, hematology), new technologies (proteomics, metabolomics, pharmacogenomics), new medical strategies (personalized medicine, rare diseases, addictions, autoimmune diseases) and translational research fields (microbiome, extracellular vesicles). Symposia presented by IFCC and EFLM will cover various activities of their specialized divisions (standardization, impact of laboratory medicine, educational activities). Sessions will be organized during lunch time by various societies or federations on important scientific or professional topics. Educational workshops sponsored by manufacturers will deal with a variety of subjects related to clinical practice. Poster sessions will benefit from the newest technologies of communication. High level abstracts, especially from young scientists, have been selected for oral presentations during symposia.

Three satellite meetings will be organized : one pre-congress meeting in Versailles on "Critical Care Testing and Blood Gases" and two post-congress meetings, in Reims on HbA1c and Management of Diabetes Mellitus, and in Paris on Trace Elements and Vitamins.

Hoping that you will appreciate the efforts of the Scientific Programme Committee to offer you an outstanding programme and that EuroMedLab 2015 will provide you with some unforgettable personal and professional memories, I remain

Sincerely yours,

Prof. Philippe Gillery, MD, PhD

EuroMedLab Paris 2015 is representing the unique, most important and influential European event in laboratory medicine including the Journées Internationales de Biologie Clinique to be held in France in 2015. It will be an opportunity to show the dynamism and vitality of our society working cooperatively with the other IFCC-EFLM societies. The SFBC, founded 70 years ago, is a multidisciplinary professional organisation serving a large network of national and International French and French speaking specialists in laboratory medicine. Through leadership and innovation in Lab medicine science and education, the SFBC aims to establish and to improve the standards for scientific, clinical and technical aspects of best laboratory practices bridging basic science, applied science and clinical care providing a clear vision of the key role of clinical chemistry and laboratory medicine.
EuroMedLab Paris 2015 will be the « R-evolution in Lab Medicine » linking scientific and other evidence to shape tomorrow’s development in the field of Lab Medicine and global Health placing the patient at the heart of all our efforts and discussions. The Exhibition will be exploring current and innovative technologies in laboratory diagnostic. Multidisciplinary approaches to diagnosing disease including the proteomics and other “Omics” applications, advances in personalised medicine, new developments for cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, cancer, organ transplantation, and more on what the future holds for In Vitro Diagnostic and Point of Care testing will be showcased. Beside the scientific programme, EuroMedLab Paris 2015 will provide a vast array of opportunities for informal meetings, discussion and networking.
